An international celebration of mountain biking will come to the new-look Blackstone Hill this Saturday, 11 June. The Mary Street recreation reserve will join the annual International ‘Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day’ from 2pm to 5pm.

Councillor David Morrison said the event would showcase the new Blackleg Gully trail. “Mountain biking has been identified as a growing recreational and sports activity in Ipswich and our trails are now among the best in the state,” he said.

“Experienced riders will be on hand to offer tips and encouragement, and participants are reminded to bring their own bikes, covered shoes and helmets.”

Castle Hill Trails Alliance will host a working bee at the reserve from 8am to Noon on the day. This group of community volunteers continues to do some important work at Blackstone Hill, helping to rehabilitate our 4km of walking trails and 16km of mountain bike trails. The area is in the midst of a $500,000 upgrade.

Riders of all ages and abilities are invited to come along with their families and friends and enjoy a free sausage sizzle courtesy of Booval Rotary.
