Author, adventurer and human guinea pig Todd Sampson seeks to inspire local entrepreneurs and innovators alike at Ipswich Central Library’s Cocktail Hour.
If you can imagine it, Todd Sampson has probably done it. Climbing Mt Everest, hunting and eating a baboon in Tanzania, Canadian-born Sampson leads an extraordinary life.
Through his television series RedesignMyBrain, Sampson shows the human brain can be trained to conquer the challenges of everyday life. Delving into the science of brain plasticity, Sampson has undergone extensive brain training in order to learn nine new mental skills.
He has enhanced his mental endurance, flexibility and pain management. He also learns to control his fears, develop better decision-making processes, and discovers the benefits of meditation to reduce stress.
Using death-defying stunts to prove the strength and plasticity of the human brain, Sampson impresses experts, scientists and worldwide audiences.
Ipswich people will be taken on a scientific journey of discovery with Sampson at the South Street Library on Friday, 4 November.
Todd says we have the ability to improve it at any age and at any time, and his talk at Cocktail Hour aims to show the audience how to boost their brain power. He will also provide them with the practical tools, strategies and techniques to improve the power of the brain.
“Creativity has the power to change the world, but fear has the power to stop that from happening,” Sampson said.
“The most successful leaders and organisations of the future will be the ones that can successfully balance both.
“In today’s parity world, creativity is the last remaining competitive advantage in business.”
Councillor David Pahlke said Sampson’s visit would follow successful events with Tara Moss and William McInnes earlier this year.
“Todd is an innovator who represents everything that we’re trying to achieve here in Ipswich, in terms of becoming a smart city that engages, inspires and interacts with leading thinkers and entrepreneurs from all walks of life,” Cr Pahlke said.
“Todd’s work with the human brain shows what we’re all capable of and looks at ways to improve our minds at any age and at any time.
“Like Tara Moss and William McInnes before him, Todd will provide an insight into his career and his life away from work.”
Ipswich Libraries has worked hard to attract Todd Sampson to Ipswich, endeavouring to attract a new audience to the library.
“People who can see the benefits of lifelong learning would be interested in many of the emerging technologies offered here in Ipswich, to help people reach their goals in life,” Cr Pahlke said.
Todd is very passionate about the advantages of libraries and spent much of his spare time as a young person in the library, which put him in good stead to continue to learn.
Cocktail Hour with Todd Sampson will start with drinks and finger food at 6pm on Friday November 4, followed by Sampson’s presentation at 6.30pm and signings at 7.30pm.
