THE finish line is in sight for stage four of the popular Brassall Bikeway after the last of three new bridges was lowered into place this week.
The bridges were installed as part of works to extend the recreation bikeway and connect it to future residential growth areas west of the Ipswich CBD and to the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail.
Councillor Cheryl Bromage said the connectivity provided by stage four of the bikeway would boost cycle travel throughout the Ipswich region.
“The installation of these three 25m steel truss bridges means we are on the home straight as far as the $3 million stage four Brassall Bikeway extension goes,” Cr Bromage said.
“Stage four has included the continuation of the 3m wide concrete bikeway, with construction between Gregory Street, Wulkuraka and Diamantina Boulevard at Brassall.
“As well, LED path lighting has been installed and landscaping works undertaken along the 2.8km extension.
It is due for completion at the end of June 2016.
