Bremer State High School raises nearly $2000 in Shave for a Cure

There were plenty of nervous laughs, loud cheers and even a few small tears from the students of Bremer State High School (BSHS) during the school’s World’s Greatest Shave.
In an impressive feat, students and staff that opted to either colour or shave their head for a cure raised close to 2000 dollars for the Leukaemia Foundation.
Brave student Kianna Taylor not only shaved her head on the day, but preserved her ponytail to ensure it could be donated to be turned into a wig for cancer patients.
“My hair was down to my ribs before I shaved, I have been growing it for nearly six years,” Kianna said. “It’s for a good cause so why not?”
BSHS Principal Kay Louwrens said cancer affects many in the Bremer community which is why they’re proud to continue the tradition of Shave for a Cure.
“Shave for a Cure is a very special event for our school community as we have many students and staff who personally know someone who is facing either blood cancer or some other form of cancer,” Ms Louwrens said.
“Teacher, Ms Baillie Heck coordinated the fundraising event, attracting a huge turnout of students and supporting parents. Students raised over $1938 with one student alone raising $600.”
