Ipswich business leaders and members of the local community have the chance to support the Commonwealth Games and focus attention on Ipswich, by nominating a local legend to carry the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games 2018 (GC2018) Baton.
Nominations are required up until the 15th of May.
The spotlight will be on Ipswich on the 29th of March 2018 as the Baton journeys through Ipswich towards the Opening Ceremony on the 4th of April, 2018.
GC2018 is looking for Baton bearers who: have achieved something extraordinary or inspired others to achieve something extraordinary; or have made a significant contribution to either sport, education, the arts, culture, charity or within their community; or have excelled, or aspire to excel athletically or personally; or have contributed to a fun, friendly, vibrant and inclusive community;
Applicants need to be at least 10 years of age as at 25 December 2017; and are an Australian citizen or lawfully entitled to reside in Australia during the Relay period (25 December 2017 – 4 April 2018).
Ipswich Mayor Paul Pisasale said the Queen’s Baton Relay was a rare opportunity to shine a light on the people and places that make our community great.
“The Queen’s Baton Relay is not only a symbol of the Commonwealth Games, but an event that will connect Ipswich with communities across Australia and the entire Commonwealth,” Cr Pisasale said.
“We’re delighted to be a part of an event that will take Ipswich to the world and I encourage you to nominate a local legend you think deserves to be a Baton Bearer.”
