The RAAF’s No 1 Combat Communications Squadron which served in no less than five warlike operations over the past 10 years has celebrated 50 years as an Air Force unit.

Major operational deployments recently include Afghanistan, Timor Leste 2006, Solomon Islands 2003 and Iraq. Earlier deployments included Cambodia (1991), East Timor (1999-2000) and Kyrgyzstan 2002.

1CCS is responsible for the provision of expeditionary Communications and Information Systems and navigational aids to support Air Force and Australian Defence Force operations and exercises.

1CCS has a long and distinguished record of providing tactical Communications and Information Systems in support of Australian Defence Force operations and exercises.

1CCS provides radio systems, information systems and air traffic control systems support at home and from very remote locations, anywhere in the world. 1CCS is often required to provide tactical and temporary communications support during disaster relief operations, both in Australia and overseas.

Wherever the RAAF has aircraft operating there will be 1CCS unit on the ground to facilitate the command and control of those assets in the tactical or deployed environment.

1CCS personnel are drawn from the Electrical Engineer, Communications Electronic Technician and Communications and Information Systems Controller specialisations.
