Spring has sprung, the grass is green… and wedding bells are ringing!
In case you’ve been living under a rock, wedding and engagement party season is here people – so let’s get frocked and ready to go with these style and fashion tips for spring and summer weddings.
Whether the wedding you’re attending is in Thailand or the Gold Coast, is a black tie affair or something more casual, these wedding fashion etiquette tips will ensure you’re voted as the best dressed guest (after the Bride, of course!)
Black Tie Wedding
A lot of people stress out over a black tie wedding, and think the only solution is to wear an expensive ball gown that will remain in their closet forever. Experiment with a slightly shorter hemline where that has a subtle print.
Semi-formal wedding
Probably the most common dress code for weddings, semi-formal weddings are a chance to incorporate a detail into your outfit that ensures you don’t blend in with the other guests.
We love the off-the-shoulder tie up dress from Pretty Little Thing for that reason – the asymmetric hemline, the tie up shoulder and the button detailing jazz up an ordinary midi dress. (see pg 20 of September’s issue)
Beach Wedding
Beach weddings are a great time to experiment with clothes that aren’t usually seen at weddings, but are still nuptial-appropriate.
We love the red floaty Zimmermann jumpsuit for a beachside wedding that can be dressed down with sandals for the ceremony, and heels if the reception is held inside. (see pg 21 of September’s issue)
Things to Avoid
Bright, bold colours: Not necessarily a huge no-no, but some brides prefer that you wear more subdued colours on their big day so that they stand out. Whilst fuchsia pinks and bold reds are on trend right now, it’s best to consult the bride first – or simply save the bright colours for another event.
Short, skimpy dresses and playsuits: We live in sunny South East Queensland. I assure you that there will be plenty more opportunities to show off your pins this spring and summer.
However for a wedding, it is best to stick to a midi length dress.
Black or White Outfits
This one should be pretty obvious, but in case it isn’t – don’t wear white to compete with the bride, and don’t wear black because it’s a celebration, not a funeral!
Uncomfortable Heels
Do you want to be the only one sitting at the table, or do you want to enjoy tearing up the dance floor with your nearest and dearest?
Be Bold
Don’t be afraid to explore a new print, asymmetrical hemline or even a pant suit – dare to go outside your comfort zone!
