Our furry, eucalypt devouring marsupials in the Ipswich region have a few reasons to celebrate, with a new wildlife rescue service.
If Wild Koala Day wasn’t a big enough reason to rejoice, perhaps the brand new koala and wildlife rescue vehicle gifted to the Ipswich Koala Protection Society by Ipswich City Council will get ears twitching in celebration.
The donation came about after IKPS put a call out after one of its two wildlife ambulance vehicles broke down late last year.
Mayor Paul Pisasale said Council donated a former ICC fleet car so the Ipswich Koala Protection Society could continue its important work.
“Council has long been a supporter of the Ipswich Koala Protection Society and the work its volunteers do throughout the region,” Cr Pisasale said.
“We are committed to preserving and enhancing our environment and local wildlife populations.
“This vehicle will allow the Ipswich Koala Protection Society to continue to rescue sick, injured and orphaned wildlife.”
Providing a free 24/7 ambulance service for the recovery of sick, injured and orphaned wildlife in Ipswich and surrounding areas is just one of the many things IKPS provides for Ipswich koala’s. As a non-profit, volunteer organisation, kind acts such as the donation of the rescue vehicle go a long way. If you would like to assist the IKPS, visit www.ikps.com.au/membership.
