Here’s the latest celebrity gossip and entertainment news from the world of stage, screen and television.
Laverne Cox is making history after gracing the cover of the South African February edition of Cosmopolitan – making her the first transgender woman to do so. The Valentines Day themed edition focuses on LGBTQI+ issues, making Cox the perfect cover girl. Taking to Instagram to share her excitement, she wrote: “I am so honored and proud to cover the February issue of @cosmopolitansa,” she said. Also featured on her Instagram is a behind the scenes video of her answering a Cosmopolitan quiz to her 2.8 million followers.
This isn’t the first time the 45-year-old has pushed boundaries for the trans community.
Her performance in Orange is the New Black landed her an Emmy nomination in 2014, and was also the first transgender person to cover Time. Go Laverne!
Bruna Papendrea, Executive Producer of mini-series favourite Big Little Lies has told E! news that several A-Listers have asked to be considered for the second season of the show – like Meryl Streep who will feature in Season 2. “I get calls about actors, some of them quite well known, who say, ‘If there’s anything in Big Little Lies,’ ‘cause I think they also saw we had a lot of fun as a group together and people kind of want to come to that party, which I think is really great,” she said.
What she’s remaining tight lipped on however is whether Alexander Skarsgard is set to return – even though *spoiler alert* he died in the Season One finale after a confrontation with characters played by Witherspoon, Kidman, Woodley and Kravitz. The second series, which wasn’t ever planned but demanded by keen fans is being described by HBO as: “The subversive, darkly comedic drama Big Little Lies will explore the malignancy of lies, the durability of friendships, the fragility of marriage and, of course, the vicious ferocity of sound parenting. Relationships will fray, loyalties will erode…the potential for emotional and bodily injury shall loom.”
The world is becoming frustrated with Kylie Jenner, who is yet to reveal her pregnancy status. In a recent photoshoot for Calvin Klein alongside her sisters, Jenner’s stomach is notably covered up in every single shot – see above for example, where she’s hiding the lower half of her body by sitting behind her sister Khloe.
Her bizarre behaviour stems from September 2017 when the pregnancy rumours began. Since then, she has barely posted on social media, and has been absent on the latest season of Keeping Up With The Kardashians. Theories of her media disappearance include her being the real surrogate for Kim, or Kris is wanting to sell the story to the highest bidder.
A source close to Jenner told ET: “It’s the first time she can remember in her entire life not being followed by cameras […] she’s definitely not going to deny that she’s had a baby, or continue to evade questions about it all.
“As soon as the baby is born, she will make an announcement and introduce the baby to her fans, and address the fact that she went ‘dark’ on social media and in public.”
