So you and your best girlfriends have decided to make the scene at the Ipswich Cup. Great! Here are some guidelines to get you fully prepped and to make sure your day is fun, comfortable and safe.
Do No 1: Dress to impress, but also for the weather
The Ipswich Cup is the social event of the season, so naturally you want to show off your best outfit. However, the Ipswich Cup is infamous for rainy or cold weather so bring a jacket, and avoid suede shoes (there’s no hope when it comes to mixing suede, water and mud) and avoid anything that is prone to stains.
Don’t No 1: Blow the budget
So you’ve gone all out and bought a new dress, shoes and fascinator, with a clutch to match. Fantastic! Have you considered your other costs for the day? Taxi fares, tickets, pre-cup beauty prepping, makeup, hair, tanning.. the list goes on. Create a budget and stick to it – that way you have a little left over for some responsible betting!
Do No 2: Wear comfortable shoes
It’s a long day of socialising and mingling at the Cup, so you’ll be on your feet all day long. Avoid the ridiculous stilettos and you won’t be sinking into the grass or slinging your shoes over your shoulders by 4pm! Importantly, if you purchase a new pair of heels, ensure you wear them in prior to the big day.
Don’t No 2: Slack beauty prep
If you need a helping hand in the hair and makeup departments, you’re best to book ASAP! Hair and beauty salons across Ipswich often book out in advance. If you’re doing it yourself, make a checklist of everything you need and do a trial run beforehand.
Do No 3: Get your tickets, ASAP!

Don’t No 3: Go crazy with the drinks package
Whether you’re in the public area, corporate tent or infield, it’s likely you’ll want to enjoy a few drinks. Remember, what happens at the Ipswich Cup does not necessarily stay at the Ipswich Cup, especially if you are partying with colleagues or your boss. With smartphones and social media, no one is safe from their not so glamorous moments.
This year’s Ipswich Cup will be held at the Bundamba Racetrack on Saturday, June 17. For more information go to www.ipswichturfclub.com.au.
