Freshen up your space

The New Year is here and it’s time to freshen the living space in your home.

You don’t need to undergo a huge renovation to freshen up the home. If you’re looking to make a few small changes around the home, we suggest purchasing a few new décor pieces or changing the colour scheme to liven up your living space. 2017 trend forecasters are suggesting that the days of marble and copper are “so 2016”, so we have given you a quick style guide that will have your home looking “up-to-the-minute”, minus the hefty price tag!

Utilise your wall space

In a room where floor space is limited, it’s important to make the most of your walls by using every inch for home decor. Utilising wall space allows you to completely change the way a room looks without buying excessive throw rugs or cushions that clutter the space (which also saves you money!) If your walls are looking bare, spice them up with colourful artwork, install wall shelves for storage and don’t forget.. the wall itself! Add some flavour with a colourful patterned wallpaper (we hear tropical style is making a comeback) or go for a brightly painted accent wall. Green is seemingly the colour interior designers are opting for in 2017, whether it be emerald or a bright green. Interesting..

Texture, texture, texture

If you’re running short on home decor ideas that will add depth to your scheme, look no further than texture-rich décor. One of the easiest ways to add interest to a neutral colour palette, and create a cosy and inviting space is buying items with contrasting textures.

When shopping for new decorative pieces for your home, look for items that you would want to reach out and touch: silky curtains, woven straw baskets, shiny metals, and weathered timber frames. Contrasting textures will create a visual feast when colours are muted and patterns limited, and can even have a dramatic effect.

Prints and Patterns

Something that is easy and inexpensive to introduce to your living space are different patterns. As per the wallpaper suggestion above, tropical style prints are making a comeback. Adapting a tropical throw pillow to a plain couch adds intrigue without being too “in your face”. If that’s still too much for you, geometric patterned items are an easy way to curate the space.
