Combat your dry, dull complexion this winter by incorporating these beauty hacks into your routine.
Cut down on shower time:
It’s tempting to sit in front of the heater or take longer than normal showers in the winter months. However, both winter warming techniques are severely drying on the skin as hot water slowly strips away the oily protective skin barriers, and heating causes water in the skin to evaporate quicker than normal. Set a timer when in the shower and avoid turning on the heater – rug up instead!
Insides reflect outsides:
It’s very tempting to indulge in hearty foods in winter that aren’t the best for our health. Opt for oatmeal in the mornings, as it’s full of vitamins, minerals and lipids that keep your skin glowy. Throughout the day, incorporate foods rich in Omega 3 fatty acids like walnuts or salmon, that help skin retain moisture.
Hydrate from within:
While we tend to be less thirsty in the winter months, it’s still important to hydrate yourself with plenty of water. Staying hydrated will help prevent your skin from becoming dry and flaky, and it may even reduce the appearance of fine lines on your face. Water also flushes toxins out of your skin, leading to fewer breakouts (also handy for keeping healthy during cold and flu season).
Switch your cleansing routine
If you use foaming cleansers in the summer months, now is the time to switch to something more hydrating like a milk cleanser. Otherwise, you’re stripping your skin of it’s natural moisture barrier – making it dull and dry.
Consider a collagen supplement
Ingesting a collagen supplement has a variety of health benefits, but particularly for your skin health. There’s plenty of options available – powder, capsules or even in gummy form that are easy to incorporate into your daily routine.
