Andrew Winter, often referred to as Australia’s Property Guru, has purchased land in Ipswich and has development approval to build five homes as part of a small scale innovative terrace housing scheme, similar to a successful project in Brisbane.
It’s not hard to see why Andrew has this reputation, from selling houses in London and Kent, hosting shows such as ‘Selling Houses Australia’ and, most recently, ‘Love it or List it Australia’.
Entering the property market at the ripe young age of 17, Andrew sold his first home within a matter of months. His advice for young Ipswich millennials entering the world of real estate is to “re-adjust your expectations.”
“The key word is compromise,” Andrew said.
“Whether it’s a two bedroom instead of a four bedroom, tired condition compared to beautiful condition, or it can be location. People keen to enter the house market are that keen that they’re compromising on places like Sydney and Melbourne and are looking elsewhere to more regional places.”
Andrew is no stranger to regional places or the Ipswich property market. After expanding his property interests with a development of a small scale innovative terrace housing scheme in Brisbane, Andrew has decided to start a similar second scheme in Ipswich.
“Ipswich wasn’t an area I knew very well, but I quite liked what I saw when I got there,” Andrew said.
“I have bought right in the middle of the central area because I found it really surprisingly attractive with so many historic homes and parks, yeah it really appealed to me.”
Purchasing land at the Limestone Park end of Moffatt Street, Andrew has development approval to build five homes. He is exploring all options but leaning towards smaller freehold blocks so people can still have control over their land, without high maintenance.
He also believes the CBD location will appeal to those wanting to walk to nearby amenities.
“The hospital, the medical precinct and the university.. it’s all nearby and it’s so affordable,” Andrew said.
“Ipswich still has some not well regarded suburbs, but look at Newtown in Sydney, Fortitude Valley in Brisbane and St Kilda in Melbourne. It’s going to come to a time when people realise the value that’s out there and at some point Ipswich will get it’s kick. It hasn’t happened just yet and when it will happen, who knows.”
Andrew is set to delight Ipswich residents this month at Cocktail Hour on November 17 to discuss his Ipswich development scheme, as well as talking all things buying, selling and renovating. Run by Ipswich Libraries, Cocktail Hour is a sought-after premium event featuring popular celebrity speakers.
