David Strassman, the guy who made ventriloquism hip again is back in town with his new show, iTedE – and reports are it’s guaranteed to have audiences laughing “every ten seconds!”

For someone who was never interested in ventriloquism, he sure has made a hell of a career out of it! David is returning to Ipswich with a brand new show, iTedE at the Ipswich Civic Centre on the 20th and 21st of May.

The American comedian only took a ventriloquism class in junior high school to get an easy grade at school.

When he excelled and realised he could make money from the craft, with a little help of his teacher, he never looked back.

Strassman’s show is something completely different from what audiences have seen before.

He focuses on technology, bending the rules of ventriloquism by commanding all five ‘characters’ at once – live and for half an hour.

“My show, which is of course a comedy show, briefly and very loosely talks about how technology could be hurting our imagination,” David said.

“The focus is on all of us who are addicted to our phones, screens and computers.

“We are addicted to our devices – that’s how we get our news – and that’s how we communicate.”

Strassman first developed Chuck Wood – the classic ventriloquist doll – a snarky, mean adolescent who says all the nasty things we wish we could say.

From there, he created Ted E Bare, the complete opposite of Chuck and, as David affectionately calls him, “the simpleton” of the group.

From these two characters, a perfect ‘sibling rivalry’ was born. As always, Kevin the Alien, Sid the Beaver and Grandpa Fred will be there, along with a special guest – Buttons the Clown.

David loves performing in Ipswich, and urges everybody to get in early and purchase tickets to avoid missing out.

“We sell out everytime at the Civic Centre; it’s a beautiful venue, it’s massive, so you better get your tickets straight away,” David said.

“Ipswich is real, it’s working class, it’s not the people living in high-rises overlooking the river, it’s real Australians.

“It’s a laugh every ten seconds because I started out in the comedy clubs of New York.

“It’s a completely different show from the last time I was there.

“There will be tonnes of local references in the show and it will be Chuck Wood and Ted E Bare at their best.
