The Prince Alfred Hotel’s newest bar, Tap’d, has a whopping 72 different products on tap.

Among those 72 taps are four taps that they call their ‘Feature Four’. These Feature Four showcase four products from one particular brewery and will change regularly.

The current Feature Four come from Murrays Craft Brewing Co in Port Stephens, New South Wales.

Murray and the team have been brewing unique and off-beat naturally crafted beers since 2006, and in the process have won a bunch of awards and accolades – including ‘Australia’s Brewer of the Year’ last year.

The first feature beer this month the Murray’s Whale Ale – a refreshing wheat beer with a twist. Whale Ale’s high percentage of malted and unmalted wheat and aromatic late hop profile gives a unique take on a session strength ale.

A classic light body, creamy mouthfeel and refreshing citris flavour. This is balanced with assertive late hopping, giving a fresh, light tropical fruit aroma and cleansing dry finish.

Murray’s Whale Ale is light gold in colour and lightly filtered to give it a sparkling appearance.

Murray’s Angry Man Pale Ale, a classic US style pale ale is out next feature beer.

Australian, English and German malts balance the huge citrus/pine hop aroma. Strongly influenced by generous use of US Centennial and NZ Motueka hops.

Angry Man has a full-bodied finish and complex character. This is well balanced with biscuity/toffee flavours from selected caramalts.

Next in out Feature Four is Murray’s FRED IPA. At first glance, you might think only his mum could love him. But once you try FRED IPA, we reckon you’ll fall under his spell.

FRED is aggressively late hopped with a house blend of hops from the US Pacific Northwest.

It has the classic US IPA hop aroma and flavour of big citrus, tropical fruit and pine notes throughout. An assertive bitterness is balanced by the sweetness of the pale, crystal and wheat malt additions. A beautiful hopped up brew to be enjoyed with smoky and spicy food.

Murray’s AppleShack Cider rounds out our Feature Four. AppleShack is Murray’s first ever cider with the first back released within the last couple of months. Light bodied, clear, crisp and moderately sweet. A new world cider brewed at Bobs Farm. So moreish and thirst quenching, this cider is perfect on a warm summer’s day.

Thirsty yet? These four beers and ciders are pouring right now at Tap’d. Keep an eye out on Tap’d’s Facebook page for upcoming beers, newly tapped beers and all the news on upcoming events and promotions.

Cheers, Tim
