Your lifestyle in focus at Optical Superstore Ipswich

For specialist vision testing and professional fitted eye glasses and new age contact lenses, The Optical Superstore at Riverlink has the product range and specialist expertise to cater for everyone’s individual optical needs.

David and Diana Ward have been the spectacle of eye care in Ipswich for more than 15 years, having relocated from the Ipswich Mall to Riverlink Shopping Centre just one year ago. The duo are proud Ipswich locals who have more than 25 years experience in the optics industry.

Under the Optical Superstore banner, they are also extremely proud to be Australian owned and stock a majority of Australian brands.

Their expertise, coupled with the knowledge and experience from resident optometrists Alison Limpus and Emma Chen means customers can rest assured knowing you’re receiving the best eye care possible within the Ipswich region.

An emerging unfortunate trend in the optometry market is for customers to buy their frames online. Whilse it may be a cheaper option in the short term, David said it’s a risky move for a variety of reasons.

“Put simply, you can’t get an eye test online, and this is an essential start to buying new glasses” David said.

“Even if you know your prescription, it’s so important to have your eyewear professionally fitted.

“In order to find your perfect pair of glasses, you need to ask lifestyle questions to find out what frame and lens combination fits, as not every frame will fit every design of lens.

“If you’re playing the piano or playing golf, there are different frames that we need to use for different lenses. You won’t get that same service online, and you won’t find out what’s best for your individual needs.

“When you speak to someone like myself or Diana who have been in the industry for over 25 years, you will know.”

“We have the knowledge base that a lot of other optical stores don’t have,” David said.

“Aside from our experienced optometrists, we’re proud to have optical dispenser staff who have the skills to interpret prescriptions, provide advice to clients about spectacle frames, lenses, contact lenses, sunglasses and safety eyewear.”

Concentrating on the wants and needs of their clients was also a key factor in moving their shop to Riverlink Shopping Centre. The ease of access, coupled with the extended opening hours means it’s now easier than ever to get an eye test – no matter how busy your lifestyle.

“For one thing, parking is a lot easier for our customers,” David said.

“For our elderly customers, there’s also ease of access with a bus stop, taxi rank and lifts only a short walk away.

“We also have testing available six days a week, including late night appointments on Thursdays for those with busy work schedules.”

For those interested in quality sunglasses, Optical Superstore Ipswich are proud to stock a variety of quality Australian and high-end brands, such as Mako, Maui Jim, Bolle, Bill Bass, David Lawrence, Boss and Kate Spade.

David said they stock brands that the vast majority can be fitted with a prescription.

Under new Medicare changes, patients under 65 years are bulk-billed for an eye test every three years, and patients over 65 years are bulk-billed for an eye test every twelve months.

However, if you notice changes in your vision between scheduled eye test appointments, David says not to delay having an eye test.

“If your vision has changed between that time, you should not wait, as early detection of eye problems is so important to treatment options,” David said.

“A lot more people are getting problems with their eyes earlier in life because they’re using devices at such close range for long periods of time, and not giving their eyes a rest.

“Additionally, eye tests can pick up important health situations like glaucoma, diabetes, cataracts and a whole range of different eye conditions.

“We also have retinal photography, so if there’s any issues with the back of your eyes we can reassess it later.”

“A lot of conditions if picked up early, can be managed.”
