At The Springfield Anglican College the breadth and dynamism of curriculum on offer is highly important. In Year Seven and Year Eight, the curriculum is broad with students studying core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science, and Humanities as well as a range of rotational subjects.
This focus enables students to develop important foundations for future studies, exploring a range of different education experiences to support their preferred learning styles, assisting skill development, and understanding required beyond school.
The importance of developing students’ higher order thinking skills, the ability to solve complex problems, critical and creative thinking, emotional intelligence and resilience is imperative.
To support this direction, the College identifies as an Authentic Learning Community, providing students with greater exposure to ‘real life’ learning experiences. With greater relevance to their learning, delivering more hands-on learning experiences with a range of technologies.
The College’s holistic approach to education, recognises all students are different; with diverse interests, strengths, challenges, and learning styles. Providing quality and considered pastoral care lies at the heart of a TSAC education, constantly striving to improve how we nurture and care for students. Creating an environment where students feel safe and enjoy their learning, encouraging risk taking to try new things empowering students to realise their potential.
Talented academic students are supported with structures and programmes in place provide a variety of extension and enrichment activities. Students requiring learning support are equally supported, varying according to individual need.
Ensuring academic progress of all students is well monitored, the College has developed a Learning Analytics programme providing staff, students, and parents with access to ‘live data’. A view of student’s progress, in each subject, up to the point of the last assessment marked. The power of this programme is immense. The identification of specific areas for improvement has made significant difference to the progress of many students.
Beyond the classroom, the College’s extra-curricular programme expands significantly with a wider range of sports, Creative Arts, clubs and outdoor education experiences to choose from The College is a member of The Associated Schools, Greater Brisbane Conference, in which students play against other independent schools each Saturday. Creative Arts students can choose from a range of ensembles, choirs, bands and dance troupes. With expanding numbers of clubs including Drama, Arts, Science, Design and Technology, Chess, Running, and Mountain Biking providing a great deal to support the interests of all students.
The diversity of experience afforded to students at The Springfield Anglican College in Years Seven and Eight provides a wonderful platform for their future, encouraging students naturally beginning to think more seriously regarding career pathways and providing resources to achieve these goals.
