What is it about St Peters Lutheran College Springfield that continues to make it one of the most popular education choices in Greater Springfield?
The school, which has been in operation since 2008, is committed to working with students to realise their full potential. It achieves this by being attentive to the individual needs of students with a focus on the pastoral, academic, physical and spiritual dimensions – a special attention on the whole child.
A modern co-educational school, it offers a welcoming, vibrant and friendly environment. At the heart of the College are the two expectations of all St Peters students:
- to live by the motto of Plus Ultra
ever higher, more beyond; and - to treat everyone with Care,
Dignity and Respect.
Actively engaging students with these foundational values, combined with a nimble approach to contemporary learning and innovation has created a dynamic culture that values the individual and embraces change.
St Peters is proud to offer their students comprehensive academic, sports, music and personal development programs. For example, the unique 5-week Year 9 outdoor education and agricultural program at Ironbark provides a truly memorable and transformative experience for St Peters students.
The maxim of beginning with the end in mind describes the intentional future-focused approach that St Peters Springfield adopts to help their students achieve their best, from Prep through to Year 12 and beyond. The school has recently devised their ‘graduate tree’, which illustrates the core qualities, capabilities and dispositions the school seeks to equip their students with through their St Peters’ journey.
Principal, Mr Craig Schmidt summarises this, “We want our young people to have a strong sense of their identity and their place and purpose in the world. We want them to be inspired and empowered, to open their minds to possibilities and discover the fullness of their capacity to make a difference in the world.
“It is not only about knowledge and capabilities for ‘doing’, but also a concern for the character and qualities of the person they are ‘becoming’. We are very proud of our young people and the calibre of staff who mentor and teach them.”
The school continues to grow and is approaching a milestone of 600 enrolments. To support this growth, an impressive Junior High precinct is under construction. The first stage of this new facility will house an ‘iSTEAM’ laboratory, six agile classrooms, an individualised Learning Hub, internal and external breakout areas, large flexible learning area, student display gallery, food servery with dining space and more.
Acknowledging the importance of wellbeing to human flourishing and optimal achievement, St Peters has integrated a wellbeing framework grounded in positive psychology throughout the school’s programs.
PERMA, an acronym for Positive Emotion, Engagement, Relationships, Meaning and Accomplishment, is a key focus of this evidence-based approach.
