Tennis superstar Ash Barty has come into the spotlight once again after pledging to donate all of her prize money from the Brisbane International to the Red Cross Appeal, who are assisting those who have been affected by bushfires across Australia.

The Ipswich local announced the news on Sunday 5, in the two week lead up to the tournament final where she is currently sitting in the top spot.

If Barty was to win, her donation would total $188, 280.

Last year Barty donated $30, 000 to the RSPCA to help wildlife affected by the fires that have been burning since September 2019.

The world number one said that she was moved to make her contribution after sitting down with her family and teammates and brainstorming how they could help the bushfire relief effort.

Her decision to donate from her sporting achievements puts her among a long list of international and Australian sporting stars like Nick Kyrgios, Chris Lynn, Peter Siddle, Simona Halep and Toby Price who are doing their bit to help as they continue to play tournaments and raise awareness.

The Brisbane International final will be played at the Pat Rafter Arena on January 12.
